What is an endoceutical?

Endoceutical is Pelagic’s term for a bioactive molecule naturally present in human biology, or a closely related precursor the body can use. We identify promising molecules from human data, create a reproducible production route, validate them scientifically and translate them into ingredients and finished products.

Human data, metabolomics and causal analysis identify promising endogenous bioactives.

We select the optimal molecule, precursor, format and production route.

Synthetic biology, precision fermentation and advanced chemistry create
consistent supply.

Analytical, safety and human research establish identity, quality and

Pelagic brings products to market directly and through selected partners.

Making scarce biology scalable

Many valuable biomolecules occur at low concentrations in nature or are difficult to isolate consistently. Pelagic uses synthetic biology and precision fermentation alongside process chemistry, purification and analytical quality control to create defined, reproducible supply. Sprevive provides a commercial example of this approach; Etheriol extends it to advanced ether lipids.

Building in Italy

Pelagic Italia is Pelagic’s European operating platform for product development, commercialisation and industrial scale-up. Its planned Campania investment will integrate advanced R&D, pilot and process-development capability, analytical quality systems and commercial manufacturing. 

The programme is designed to create skilled employment, strengthen European biotechnology capacity and support the production and export of high-value health ingredients.
